Muchas Gracias El Presidente!
Our good buddy Vickie has finally stepped up to the plate in the fight for illegal immigration. El Presidente Fox is poised to sign a bill that would legalize the possession of virtually every recreational drug in Mexico. This can only help in the battle for the border. Bear with me.
When this becomes law, it will be an immediate boon to the Mexican economy. Long haired hippies from the world over (excluding the Netherlands) will now flock to Mexico for their "Drug Vacations." I predict that an entire cottage industry of drug resorts will soon pop up all over Mexico. Scenery is not important as long as there is a steady supply of narcotics and hallucinogens to keep the tourists happy. There is the small detail that the penalties for selling drugs are stiffened in the bill, but that should only serve to enrich the bank accounts of the federales.
Secondly, the improved economy will make it more desirable for Mexicans to stay in Mexico. Maybe now they can send their earnings to relatives in the US and supplement our economy. Our government could even provide tax breaks for the transfer of funds as long as the transfers were recorded as income. The resultant dollars (pesos?) would eventually reduce the welfare rolls and we could collect taxes on the American citizens as income. I see it as a win/win deal.
Lastly, maybe now, this will cause our government to get serious about securing our southern border. Hopefully, serious discussion will now begin on constructing a meaningful wall to more effectively discourage illegal immigration. In the interim, go south hippie boy, go south!
