Haditha Marines Absolved

The Law of Unintended Consequence holds that almost all human actions have at least one unintended consequence. - Wikipedia

Today the Supreme Court of the US has declared that the prisoners at Gitmo are protected by the Geneva Conventions. This asinine decision further imperils the American people by making it more difficult to prosecute terrorists, no doubt. Now I'm sure that we will see lawsuits tying up our courts, legislation proposed in congress, pompous speeches from the lefties (nothing new there), and catcalls for impeachment from the DNC kooks. Breyer, Stevens, Ginsberg, Souter, and Kennedy apparently believe that the constitutional rights of Americans extend to non-citizens and do not care about the lives of American citizens. Yep, that's a bit harsh. Get over it.

However, a caller to Rush today made an interesting point. By declaring the prisoners protected under the Geneva Conventions, any person that is not distinguishable as a combatant can now be considered a combatant and protected. The US Marines that defended themselves at Haditha now killed enemy combatants, an entirely legal act in a time of war. This ruling should be used as a case law citation and the Marines vindicated. Try that on for size.

The Hokey-Pokey Strategy of Warfare

Doug Hagin has an excellent editorial of John Murtha's stupidity at the American Daily. Check it out.

Anti-American Left Just Made Your Life More Dangerous

I've been back from vacation for a week now but haven't posted because I'm trying to form rational thoughts about the Murtha and NY Times issues. Don't misunderstand me, I instinctly had an opinion but to post it without rationally examining the stories would be irresponsible. As always, I was right from the start.

First, Murtha continues to disgrace his service in the Marine Corps by the idiocy the comes out of his mouth. The honorable and justifiably proud Corps will stay above the political fray and mudslinging of one of its ex-members. My hope is that any veteran organization that Murtha belongs to would publicly drum him out and if he seeks membership in any veteran group they should publicly refuse him. The public comments against the Marines involved in the Haditha incident ignore the due process clause of the fifth amendment and could influence an impartial jury guaranteed in the sixth. By publicly calling for their conviction before a presentment of facts and presentment of charges has been made weakens the effectiveness of the fight against terrorism and endangers American lives.

As for his assertion that the United States is more of a threat to world peace than a nuclear Iran, what comments are necessary? His lunacy removes him from serious debate and further displays his abdication of reality. It is simply the responsibility of honest Americans to remember his views whenever they step into the voting booth this fall.

Second, the reporting of the New York Times of the top secret banking tracking program is irresponsible at best and treasonous at worst. I understand the substantial freedom that has been granted to the press but that must be accompanied by a commensurate dose of responsibility. The political agenda of the Times to undermine the presidency has once again revealed to the people who would harm Americans the means that our government takes to protect its citizens. Seemingly, the Times doesn't care about your life or mine as long as they can weaken to Bush administration. They are blind to the fact that subversive attacks on the president weaken our national security and increase the danger to ordinary citizens.

I agree with Rep. Peter King (R). The disclosure of national secrets by the New York Times and its informant constitute espionage and are not protected by the first amendment. They should be held accountable for their actions and prosecuted under the rule of law.
