Terrorists Who Suck in New Jersey

I just had a friend come back from training at Ft. Dix, NJ so the story that Drudge linked to about the plot to infiltrate the base and blow things up caught my eye. The blog comments complained that there were a number of omissions in the ABC story so I decided to see what other coverage was out there. Here are some of the omitted facts and who decided that you didn’t need to know them.

NBC – NBC broke the story and the original story is still linked through the updated version. It looks like they tried to be the first to get it out there so much can be excused. They did identify the sucky terrorists as Islamic radicals but missed that three of them were illegal. Updated story now leads with this.

ABCNews – No mention that the men were all Islamic radicals. The story’s last sentence quoted one arrested as saying that he was, “…doing this in the name of Allah.” There was no also mention that three of the terrorist wannabes were living here illegally. [I guess only Mexican illegals matter to ABC]

CBSNews – Seems to have gotten it right. Although the boilerplate story now ends with a call not to associate Islam with militancy from a muslim source. Where there is smoke there is fire…

FOXNews – It looks like everyone is rewording the wire reports and the articles all say basically the same thing. Fox does something a little different in that it doesn’t identify the men as militants, just as Muslims. Oversight?

I didn’t bother with CNN’s reporting because they were two hours later than everyone else. It’s easy to get things right (maybe not at CNN or ABC) with the perspective of time.

Terrorists Who Suck

I can imagine the conversation went something like this:

Ahmed: Praise Allah! There is a convoy of heavily armed US Marines! We must shoot at them and make them mad.
Mohamed: Ahmed they are very strong and we only have these puny rifles.
Ahmed: Don't worry. We will hide in that house. Derka Derka
Mohamed: Derka Derka

The bad guys still haven’t learned. They are now camel spider food.

Terrorists Who Suck are Now Room Temperature

We really like to blow things up. The good guys killed 5 terrorists and captured 3 others a couple of days ago. It would seem to me that they could have placed some kind of trigger device on several of the barrels and blown up the explosives just as effectively. But where’s the fun in that? We got planes with bombs. It’s a lot more fun that way and it makes the pilots feel useful.

I love the last sentence of the first paragraph. What self-defense measures did they use? Did they open up some Bruce Lee on the bad guys? Maybe a little Jet Li? Perhaps they opened up Wild Mike’s box and he did the rest. But knowing how we like explosions, we probably shot them. It really doesn’t matter. Dead is dead and they are now room temperature.

Release Number:
07-01-03P
Description:
TIKRIT, Iraq – Iraqi police and local tribesmen killed or captured at least four heavily armed terrorists after the insurgents tried to attack locals and police Thursday, at the Hardinia police station near Balad, Iraq.
The group of insurgents parked their white sedan in front of the police headquarters around 7 a.m., and they immediately opened up with small-arms fire. IPs repelled the initial attack and moved toward the vehicle, which was actually a car bomb. One terrorist was killed when the car bomb prematurely detonated before he could flee.
The remaining terrorists fled the area as one individual killed himself by detonating a suicide vest during his escape.
“The people of this area have always known that the terrorists have very little to offer, but they’ve often been too afraid to take action on their own, preferring to leave it to the Coalition or Iraqi Security Forces,“ said Maj. John Throckmorton, operations officer, 3rd Combined Arms Battalion, 8th Cavalry Regiment, 1st Cavalry Division.

“In the past month, however, we’ve seen an increasing trend of neighborhoods standing up for themselves and against the terrorists,” he said. “There’s a sense that the extremist’s days are numbered. The terrorists are definitely being beaten back in this area.”
The attack resulted in three terrorists killed, two IPs wounded, one local national killed and one wounded. One terrorist was detained.

Terrorists Who Suck

I found this picture several years ago of a gunfight in Afghanistan. Judging from today’s CENTCOM press releases, the Sucky Terrorists (ST) haven’t learned much. I guess that would make them Stupid Sucky Terrorists (SST). Either way, they are prime candidates for the short bus. As a matter of fact, we put 15 of them on a short bus and sent them to find their 72 virgins. Today's lesson is: Dont Bring a Knife to a Gunfight.

The ST’s were using lots of firepower to engage Coalition ground troops on patrol. “You want a piece of me?!” the GI’s shouted. Then they called their good buddies that fly F-16’s and set up some target practice. Final score: Coalition 15 SST’s 0. Get the details here:

Title:
THREE-DAY OPERATION LEADS TO 15 TERRORISTS KILLED, IED FACTORY DESTROYED
Release Date:
2/25/2007
Release Number:
07-01-03P
Description:
BAGHDAD, Iraq - During a recent three-day operation in Salman Pak targeting al-Qaida in Iraq terrorists, Coalition Forces killed 15 terrorists involved in an improvised explosives device cell, destroyed an IED factory and thwarted two explosives emplacements.

On Feb. 14, Coalition Forces began receiving enemy contact on the ground from a fortified building in the area. Determining the targets too hostile for ground troops, Coalition Forces called for close air support. Fixed wing aircraft used precision fires to destroy the building killing five terrorists and wounding four suspected terrorists.

Also during this raid, Coalition Forces disrupted two separate groups of terrorists who were in the process of emplacing IEDs alongside a road.
Due to the high level of danger, fixed wing aircraft were used to destroy the IEDs. Ten terrorists are believed to have been killed as a result.

Coalition Forces continued their raid the following day and found a male Iraqi citizen shackled in one of the rooms of a targeted building.
Ground forces detained four males who were hiding near the building.
During a search, Coalition Forces found the hostage's cell phone on one of the detainees.

According to the hostage, he was tied up with a hood over his head for three days. He said he prayed and fasted during his captivity because he believed his captors were going to execute him. He was transported to a nearby military medical facility for an examination.

On the third and final day of the operation, Coalition Forces performed a controlled detonation destroying an IED factory. During a search of the targeted building, ground forces found a large amount of IED-making material including 1,000 pounds of various types of explosives, including nitric acid.

An explosives ordnance disposal team determined the material was too unstable to move. Ground forces cordoned off the area and ensured local citizens were moved to a safe distance during the controlled detonation.
The IED-making materials and building were destroyed to prevent future use by terrorists.

A total of 13 suspected terrorists were detained during the three-day operation.

"Coalition Forces continue to tear apart the al-Qaida network inside Iraq. This operation contributes to the reduction of this IED terrorist network's ability to operate, and increases the safety of all Iraqi citizens, Iraqi forces and Iraq's Multi-national partners," said Lt. Col. Christopher Garver, MNF-I spokesperson.

Terrorists Who Suck

It's been awhile since I posted a pure "Terrorists Who Suck" post and we need an update. After careful research, it's been determined that terrorists still haven't learned and they still suck. I love the first event.

GI 1: "Hey, those guys look like sucky terrorists!"
GI 2: "Are you sure?"
GI 1: "Yep. Watch."
GI 1: "SUCKY TERRORISTS, SURRENDER NOW OR DIE!"
ST 1-2: "ULULULULUL - INFIDELS!"
BAM! BAM!
GI 2: "Yep, they were terrorists alright." "Look! There's four more!"
GI 1: "It looks like they are carrying AK-47s, hand grenades, and vests with magazines in them."
GI 2: "What kind of magazines?"
GI 1: "It looks like 'Girls in Burkas Gone Wild on Spring Break in Egypt."
GI 2: "STOP AND SURRENDER YOU STUPID SUCKY PERVERTED TERRORISTS!"
ST 3-6: "NO!"
GI 1: "PLEASE?!"
ST 3-6: "ULULULULU - derka, derka, derka...INFIDELS!"
BAM! BAM! BAM! BAM!

Or something like that. Here's CENTAF's boring version.

Terrorist Nutcases Suck Too

I know that distinguishing a terrorist nutcase from a terrorist begs the question, but every group has its wackos. Apparently that also includes Al Qaeda. Some of the terrorists haven’t gotten the memo yet that they are only to hate Jews and Americans. They keep killing their fellow Islamic brothers. Even I know that it’s hard to maintain your numbers if you keep killing off your potential applicant pool.

It seems that Ali Raghead [I don’t know his real name and I don’t care] fancied himself an Islamic Messiah, called Mahdi. He’s supposed to die and rise again to judge good and evil. The only obstacle was the pesky Islamic clerics at Najaf who insisted in only hating Jews and Americans. So Ali Baba decides he needs to kill them so he can be the end all that ends all in Islam. He managed to get 700 village idiots to believe him and they were moving to attack the clerics on a big holy day. I don’t know which holy day but it was a big one. Kind of like Labor Day is bigger than Columbus Day I guess.

Well ole Ali Bibi Sheethead took his band of 700 thieves holed up in a compound of houses to smoke their cra…I mean get their marching orders when the US trained Iraqi Army showed up. Oops. I just have one word of advice - COMSEC! Now the kill rate was pretty slow. The initial reports show that 200 former Jund al-Samaa (Soldiers of Heaven) were killed in the 24 hour battle. That’s only one kill ever 7 minutes or so. But the IA will get better and more efficient with practice. About 100 are reported to have surrendered. There is no confirmation that 150 vacationing Frenchmen also surrendered. The Iraqi Army lost 5 and the US lost two helicopter pilots when they crashed. God rest their souls.

If you want to read the AP version of this action, you can find it here.

NINE TERRORISTS KILLED, NINE DETAINED SOUTH OF YUSUFIYAH
Release Date:
11/16/2006
Release Number:
06-01-01PS
Description:
BAGHDAD, IRAQ – Coalition Forces killed nine terrorists and detained nine suspected terrorists during a raid Thursday just south of Yusufiyah, further diminishing the al-Qaida in Iraq network.

As Coalition Forces approached the targeted area, they called out for people to exit the buildings. Ground forces noticed several armed individuals in a nearby wooded area maneuvering against them.

Close air support was called in to mitigate the threat to the Coalition Forces ground team. Coalition aircraft engaged the terrorists with precision fires. [This means that the aircraft brought the wrath of God upon the insurgents and sent them to hell]

Several of the terrorists killed were wearing suicide vests. [There were secondary explosions. People don't usually blow up when they are hit with gunfire. It probably gave the good guys an adrenaline rush but you can't say that it looked pretty cool. That would not be politically correct.]

This and other recent operations in the region highlight the deliberate, methodical dismantlement of the al-Qaida in Iraq network and those who contribute to its illegal actions. [Our guys are good]

Terrorists Who Suck

Once again we find the terrorists swimming at the shallow end of the gene pool. It seems to me that if I were a bad guy and I knew that there were routine patrols and roadblocks looking for weapons, I would do a better job of hiding them. I certainly wouldn't be driving around with a car load of camel jockeys asking to be profiled. Then the last incident caught my eye. I can just hear the conversation between the army dudes and the citizens:

AD: Halt! Whatcha doin sweet thang?

Cit: This camel jockey has kidnapped me and he wants to rape and kill me.

AD: Is this true?

CJ: Yes, I'm a camel jockey. I carry the body armor in case of machine gun jubblies.

Read it for yourself.

OBL Pushing Up Daisies?

I don't know. I find it hard to believe. The French have an intelligence agency? Anytime the country that inspired Inspector Clouseau comes out with a leaked intelligence report, I'm gonna need a little more thank you.

Giving credence to the report however is the fact that Chirac is miffed. Apparently the report didn't make GWB look bad enough.

I would love nothing more than to see OBL as fertilizer in a hole somewhere. But I'm skeptical until we have solid proof.

Title:
COALITION FORCES FREE KIDNAP VICTIM
Release Date:
8/30/2006
Release Number:
06-08-03P
Description:
KIRKUK, Iraq – Bastogne Soldiers of the 1st Brigade Combat Team, 101st Airborne Division freed a kidnap victim and captured three of the terrorists who had taken him hostage just outside of Kirkuk today.

An aerial reconnaissance team, flying missions near Kirkuk, spotted four men wearing black robes and wielding AK-47 rifles. The men stopped their sedan several times along one of the area’s main roads and set up illegal checkpoints at each stop.

As coalition ground forces moved into the area, the group made their last stop, holding 10 passengers in a van at gunpoint before pulling one of the men out of the vehicle. The four then forced the man into the trunk of their car and sped away.

As Bastogne Soldiers on the ground were moving in on the vehicle, the sedan stopped, allowing one of the terrorists to get out of the vehicle. The remaining group continued to a nearby building where they jumped out of their car and ran into the building, taking their victim with them.

A team of Bastogne Soldiers air assaulted to the area and quickly moved into the building, capturing the three assailants and freeing the hostage. A careful search of the building revealed three AK-47 rifles and several magazines, as well as a barrel filled with ammunition.

This is the third Iraqi citizen rescued from the hands of kidnappers by Task Force Band of Brothers Soldiers this month.

Kidnapping, whether for ransom, terror or propaganda use, continues to be a tactic of terrorists and criminals throughout Iraq. Teamwork between coalition forces and increasingly capable Iraqi security forces, with the help of local residents, is aimed at identifying and capturing these individuals.

Tip lines have been established in the Provincial Joint Communication Centers in Iraq’s northern provinces to allow residents to anonymously provide information about terrorist activity.

A child, approximately 10 to12 years old, was killed and a woman was wounded during the fighting. An investigation is currently being conducted to determine the identities of these individuals. Additionally, four other males in the compound were taken into custody.

The additional enemy fighters fled from the site when engaged by the Afghan and Coalition unit.

The woman who was wounded during the fighting was immediately evacuated to a nearby Coalition medical facility for treatment.

“The al Qaeda fighters deliberately put women and children at risk in an effort to protect their illegal and immoral operations,” said Col. Thomas Collins, Coalition spokesman.

Multiple weapons, ammunition and grenades were confiscated in the operation.

The purpose of this operation was to capture a known al Qaeda facilitator. Credible intelligence linked the targeted individual to suspected terrorist activities and attacks against Afghan and Coalition forces in Kunar Province.

No Afghan or Coalition forces were injured during this operation.
